Bradford Sunday Alliance League

Only one Premiership game this weekend due to Cup games being played.

Well, well, well who would have thought that the mighty Silsden AFC would lose 1:2 at HOME to the struggling AFC Prune Park, a real surprise! their first win in eight games.

WRCFA

Ventus Sports AFC travelled to Halifax this weekend to play Halifax Rangers in the second round of the West Roding County Football Association Cup (WRCFA) after getting a bye through round 1.

It turned out to be a comfortable victory at 5:0 but this result in no way highlights the difference between the two teams.

With some the players rested the scoreline should have been into double figures.

The opposition only showing any signs of scoring from long balls launched over the defence.
The pitch was small and angled, almost on a hillside and if anything added to do with the lack of goals.

New signings

Two new signings have been brought into the Team Defender Jason Davidson

and Goalkeeper Wayne Jackson

Devenney Resigns

I know, I know this post is a few weeks old now but its worth a mention. Coach Devenney dramatically resigned as Head Coach of Ventus Sports AFC on the eve of the start of the season. After taking the Team to the Premiership committments at home have forced him to step down and in his place the Finance Director Mick O'Neill has stepped in.

Ventus Sports AFC Fantasy Football

This year sees the start of the Ventus Sports AFC Fantasy Football and to date we have 57 players. The running of the Fantasy Football is by James Locker and stats can be found at http://www.ventussports.com/main/fantasyfootball.html . Good Luck to you all!

Newlands Cup 2007-2008

Ventus Sports AFC were knocked out in the semi-final stage of this years Newlands Cup by Otley Road. Match details can be found at www.ventussports.com . Although tipped favourites to win, the match was won due to missing players and a number of injuries not to mention the determination of Otley Road.

It seems that this year was not going to be their third win of the Cup but the matches served as a pre-season warm up as well as an opportunity for new players to make their mark!

Ventus Sports AFC v Bolton Woods (Friendly)

As part of the pre-season bulid up a friendly game against Bolton Woods was organised. Another chance to try out some new lads to see if they are up to the grade as well as giving the team a good work out.

Final score was 6:3 to Ventus Sports and the team showed some good footballing skills, especially getting the ball down and one touch interplay. The star player was Ben Bairstow an up and coming 14 year old. Open age rules mean he has to be 16 to play in the League. Like Manchester Uniteds latest signing, are we going to get into underage signings to keep them at the Club? Only kidding!

Anyway 2 goals for Ian Horrocks & Michael Reynolds and a goal each for Saul Peltier and John Clifford.

New summer signing

New boy Stuart Ellis has signed for Ventus Sports AFC after a good try out during the pre-season friendly against Nab Wood Juniors. Its refreshing to see new blood joining the team.

Pre Season Friendly

Although Ventus Sports AFC are in the middle of the Newlands Cup (their way of preparing for the new season) they decided to have a pre season friendly with Nab Wood Juniors at their newly seeded pitch at Apperly Bridge. (31/07/07)

It ended up being a workout for the lads but not difficult at all with Nab Wood only getting out of their half once in the full 90 minutes.

Half time score was 3:0 from a John Clifford hat trick, good to see him improving and lookig fit again.

Second half and a further 6 goals, another hat trick from Jarrad "Jazz" Peltier and also goals for Reynolds, Donnan and the Captain Saul Peltier.

All in all a good performance but nothing to taxing!

Newlands Cup

Ventus Sports AFC start this years Newlands Cup competition against Smiling Mule. After only a short lay off from the end of last season, the majority of the Team were at hand.

Being promoted to the Sunday Alliance Premiership and being a double past winner of the Newlands Cup Ventsu Sports AFC were being tipped as the favourites.

Although most of the football was being played by Ventus Sports they just could not convert the opportunies that fell to them.

Smiling Mule ended the first half 4:1 in the lead with all four goals coming from long balls upfield to their lightningly fast striker catching the defence off guard.

Second half and yet again Ventus Sports showed that they would not give up and eventually ended the game 4:4.

Bradford Sunday Alliance League

Ventus Sports AFC ended their season in the First Division by a convincing win over Buttershaw White Star, stopping them getting an undefeated championship by turning them over 4:0 away from home.

A big credit must go to the lads who never gave up throughout the season, although they played some poor games they came through in the end when it mattered!

Bradford & District Cup

Ventus Sports AFC took on the First Division leaders Buttershaw White Star (undefeated this season) in the semi finals of the Bradford & District Cup. Ventus dominated play for the whole of the game, when Buttershaw scored on the 90th minute. Ventus responded with grit and determination and equalised in injury time.

Extra time was played and both teams rode this 30 minute spell out.

Penalties and Buttershaw managed to win 7:6.

A good all round performance.
